Manchester Central Apartment, Princess Street
If you love skiing but can’t afford a trip to the Alps, there’s no need to get piste off. Despite a substantial lack of mountains and snow, the UK has plenty to offer both skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts. Here we take a look at just a few skiing holidays you can take right here at home in the UK.
If you’ve just got to have real snow then you may (or may not) have some luck if you keep watching the weather reports for Scotland. Scotland has a number of ski and snowboarding centres , in various areas of the country; in the south, close to Glasgow, to the west in the Highlands around Ben Nevis, and in the north east in the Cairngorms.
Of course, if you don’t want to be at the mercy of the weather, the UK has plenty of indoor snow slopes to choose from which offer year-round skiing and snowboarding, as well as lessons and private tuition for absolute beginners. In the north, you might try a city break in Manchester, and spend some time on the slopes of the Chill factor. Further south, Milton Keynes Xscape offers real snow and thrills for all experience levels.
There are many more snow centres in the UK, too numerous to list here, and many of these are located in, or close to, major cities, so you can combine a fun and relaxing city break with a skiing holiday, any time of the year.

Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race – Also taking place in London, on April 7th, the annual Oxford and Cambridge boat race has a long history dating back to 1829, and each year sees the two prestigious universities challenge each other on the Thames. The race runs just over four miles, from Putney to Mortlake and is usually cheered on by several hundred thousand people.
Motorsports in the UK – If you prefer your sports stars to be equipped with engines and 2-4 wheels, the UK certainly has no shortage of events for avid petrol-heads. From the F1 British Grand Prix to the ten rounds of the British Touring Car Championship, British Superbikes, Formula 3 and a host of club racing events, there’s action all year round. With circuits in Kent (Brands Hatch), Northamptonshire (Silverstone), Norfolk (Snetterton), Cheshire (Oulton Park) and other parts of the country, race weekend could be a perfect excuse for a holiday cottage mini-break, or even a full-blown family holiday.
Holiday Parks – If you’d rather get involved than sit and watch, why not take the family to a UK holiday park. Many provide access to a variety of sports and activities, from swimming and kayaking to go-karting, tennis and archery.

Apartment in Edinburgh's Royal Mile
For some people, a holiday isn’t a holiday unless you come back with a snap of a least one iconic landmark. If that’s you then check out our list of five of the best UK landmarks.
1. Stonehenge – In the heart of Wiltshire, on Salisbury Plain, you can find one of Britain’s most ancient and mystical landmarks. The circle of massive standing stones is believed to have been constructed as far back as 5000 years ago. However two important questions remain unanswered: who built it, and why?
2. The London Eye – There are of course many London buildings which could be included on this list, but the London Eye is particularly notable because you can see many of the capital’s other attractions from it, including Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and St Paul’s Cathedral.
3. Edinburgh Castle – Edinburgh is far from the only city to have its own castle, but in Edinburgh the castle lend a particularly fantastic and mystical feel to the city. The medieval fortress towers above the city from all angles, and is a constant reminder of Edinburgh’s rich history.
4. Blackpool Tower – It might not be quite as impressive as the Eiffel Tower which inspired it, but Blackpool Tower is certainly every bit as iconic. Built towards the turn of the twentieth century, the Tower has thrilled generation after generation of UK tourists. The Tower is also home to a circus, ballroom, dungeon and much more.
5. White Cliffs of Dover – When it comes to natural UK Landmarks, the White Cliffs of Dover are the first to spring to many people’s minds. Their whiteness comes from the chalk from which they are made, and they continue to have important cultural and historical significance.
Check out our holiday cottages and city apartments if you’d like to visit any of these famous landmarks.

Golden Sands Holiday Park Lincolnshire
The world is made up of two different kinds of people: those who when seeing a blanket of snow from between the curtains in the morning scrabble for coal and a carrot with which to adorn their snowman, and those who give serious consideration to climbing back into bed for the rest of the winter.
If you fall into the latter category then you may want to warm yourself with thoughts of sunnier times, and what better way than to spend these snow days planning your summer beach holiday?
The first thing you should think about is the kind of accommodation you want. If you’ve got a young family, or you just like to have everything conveniently in one place so you can kick back and relax, a UK holiday park close to the beach might be exactly what you’re looking for. Holiday park accommodation ranges from traditional chalets and apartments to luxury static caravans suitable for large families.
If you just want to be close to all the fun of the seaside but still have a quiet and peaceful place of your own, then a holiday cottage or holiday lodge might be more suitable for your summer holiday.
Once you know what kind of place you want, you can start looking for the exact location where you will indulge in sun, sea, sand and frolics this summer. The UK has some great seaside holiday destinations to choose from, ranging from Blackpool and Scarborough in the north, to Newquay and Torquay in the south, with Skegness and Great Yarmouth conveniently located around the middle of the country.
