If you love skiing but can’t afford a trip to the Alps, there’s no need to get piste off. Despite a substantial lack of mountains and snow, the UK has plenty to offer both skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts.  Here we take a look at just a few skiing holidays you can take right here at home in the UK.

If you’ve just got to have real snow then you may (or may not) have some luck if you keep watching the weather reports for Scotland. Scotland has a number of ski and snowboarding centres , in various areas of the country; in the south, close to Glasgow, to the west in the Highlands around Ben Nevis, and in the north east in the Cairngorms.

Of course, if you don’t want to be at the mercy of the weather, the UK has plenty of indoor snow slopes to choose from which offer year-round skiing and snowboarding, as well as lessons and private tuition for absolute beginners. In the north, you might try a city break in Manchester, and spend some time on the slopes of the Chill factor. Further south, Milton Keynes Xscape offers real snow and thrills for all experience levels.

There are many more snow centres in the UK, too numerous to list here, and many of these are located in, or close to, major cities, so you can combine a fun and relaxing city break with a skiing holiday, any time of the year.
